JC, Heights

The Heights in has quickly become one of the hidden gems of Jersey City. With easy accessibility to Downtown and Manhattan and plenty to do, it makes The Heights one of the most covetable areas to live in.

What distinguishes The Heights from other neighborhoods is the variety of recreational activities to participate in all year long. From ice skating in the winter, to pool facilities in the summer, there is something for each member of the family to enjoy. The Heights is a very family-friendly neighborhood: there are workshops and classes for kids of all ages as well as pet friendly facilities and dog parks!

There are many recreational facilities to enjoy quality time with family, friends, and roommates alike. At Pershing Field there are track, baseball, and tennis facilities as well as kayaking and fishing at The Reservoir! The summertime is a wonderful season to enjoy all that The Heights as to offer. There are outdoor movie screenings in the park, yoga classes to participate in, as well as live musical performances and concerts on Friday Nights. Residents all around the neighborhood can head to The Riverview Farmer’s Market to shop for local groceries, meats, and artisanal cheese: perfect for hosting that dinner party or outdoor picnic in the park. Twice a month the park has live music, with the focus on building a community and loving the neighborhood where you live. On the New Jersey state website, Mark Bunbury, the president of the organization, states that the events are “providing local food for the community, we are very much focused on providing a place for local artisans and farmers to connect to the community”1 .

As of late, the neighborhood has begun to cater to artists in the community. Artists are drawn to the more open space that The Heights provides as well as the industrial inspiration that the neighborhood provides. Some of the galleries even host workshops and art classes for both kids and adults, so it makes for a great family outing. With the opening of art galleries and shows, more restaurants, boutiques, and shops are following suit. It is clear that since the establishment of The Heights as the Art District in 2013, this neighborhood will see a lot of growth and excitement for the future.

There are many options for transportation from The Heights to get to other areas in New Jersey as well as Manhattan. The light rail is specific to New Jersey’s transportation services; and can take you from Congress Street in The Heights to Bayonne, Jersey City, Hoboken, Weekawken, Newport, and Union City.
